Robert B. Kvavik
"IT in the CIC: Where are we Now and What's Next"

Bio: Robert B. Kvavik earned his Ph.D. from Stanford University (1971). He is currently Professor of Political Science and Associate Vice President at the University of Minnesota. He directed the University of Minnesota's implementation of PeopleSoft Student and Human Resources modules. He has published extensively in his academic discipline and increasingly on the impact and organization of information technologies on institutional services. Kvavik is a nationally known speaker on e-business and IT-enabled services in higher education. Kvavik was appointed Senior Fellow of the EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research (ECAR) in January 2002. He has been a principal author of ECAR’s ERP, IT security, IT leadership, business process performance, and student use of technology studies.
Abstract: An overview is provided of the state of practice with IT at CIC institutions,
detailing where we have been, where we are now, and where we might be going. IT
organizations have radically changed how universities do business using
networks, ERP systems, redesigning business practices, and implementing tools
that are change how students learn. IT is more mission critical than ever and
Kvavik presents his ideas on what lies ahead - challenges and opportunities. |
