Strategic Priorities - Calendar Year 1998
T
hrough the implementation of pilot projects and the analysis of
system use and resources, expand the VEL to include the creation and delivery of digital
information sources.
- Establish commitment to information access and delivery through the VEL
and move forward on full deployment with a core group of CIC libraries
- Identify and implement performance goals for resource sharing
- Track and monitor resource sharing traffic within the CIC.
- Implement a pilot metadata project
- Implement a pilot project for delivering digital information (e.g.
extending Variations)
- Explore opportunities for participating in the ARL press initiative
- Participate in the implementation of an inter-university security,
authorization, and authentication project.
Conduct research on the economics of collaborative library service
delivery.
- Document and analyze the costs and cost benefit of interlibrary lending
activities.
- Investigate opportunities and options for load leveling and net lender
reimbursement.
- Document costs of digitization.
Continue to collaborate on the acquisition and licensing of electronic
information resources.
