About the Program
Established in 1987, the Academic Leadership Program (ALP) is
designed to develop the leadership and managerial skills of faculty
on CIC campuses who have demonstrated exceptional ability and
administrative promise.
Academic administrators at the CIC universities have dual roles:
They must be educational leaders and at the same time act as managers
of large complex organizations. They are challenged by tightening
budgets, changing student populations, and increasing pressures
from external sources. To find creative, workable solutions to
the problems that lie ahead, our universities must pay serious
attention to leadership development. Agencies, consulting firms,
and institutions currently offer many professional development
programs that serve the overall higher education community. The
CIC Academic Leadership Program is specifically oriented to the
challenges of academic administration at major research universities
and designed to help faculty members prepare to meet them.
