Overview of the SROP Application Process

The first step in completing the SROP application is to gain an overall understanding of the process. Please read through all application instructions before initiating your application.

Completing the Application. The CIC SROP application allows you to apply to a variety of summer research programs at participating CIC institutions using a single application.

The SROP application is web-based and is not available in paper form. The application asks for detailed academic information and personal statements about your interests and goals. It is wise to gather and prepare all of your materials before initiating the online application.

You will need an email account in order to create an application record. We will use this email account to communicate with you regarding the status of your application, so you are advised to monitor your email account.

Once you have created an application record, you will be able to log in and out of your application and edit it until you FINALIZE it. After your application is FINALIZED, you can still view and print it, but you will not be able to make changes.

Submitting Supporting Documents. In addition to the online application, you must submit a transcript of your academic record and you must have two of your professors or instructors complete an online recommendation form.

Transcript. You need to submit a transcript to the CIC office. The deadline for transcripts to reach the SROP office is MARCH 1, so be sure to request your transcript in time to meet this deadline. Have your transcript sent to the CIC at the following address:

Attn: SROP Application Process
Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC)
1819 South Neil St, Suite “D”
Champaign, IL 61820-7271

Recommendations. You will need two letters of recommendation, preferably from your professors or instructors. Once you finalize your application, you will receive information to give to your recommenders to complete a web-based recommendation . Please give them plenty of time to prepare and complete their recommendation. Follow up to make sure that the recommendations are complete.

Receiving an offer. SROP staff at participating CIC institutions will begin contacting applicants in the spring. You may be asked to provide additional information or you may receive an acceptance offer from a program. A list of campus contacts is provided on the SROP website, and you are encouraged to direct your questions about specific campus programs to the contacts on the list. It is important that you monitor your email account so that you do not miss important communications.

Notification of no offer. Notification will be sent via email to all applicants who do not receive an offer of acceptance by May 1, 2008.
